New Year, Old Products

Happy Chinese New Year!

Most people make their resolutions on January 1st of the year but being Chinese, I save them for the Lunar New Year.

It’s not so much as resolutions but organising my life. My personal life has taken a backseat ever since I started my new job last May. I never thought I would revert to this kind of schedule: six days a week, 10 hours each day. It may not sound much to you, but I’ve always had regular, government-job schedule. I miss that.

Anyway, my coworker started doing BeachBody and she was listening/participating in a 30-Day Challenge where the goal was to be “a better person”. And to achieve that, we had to set goals and try to accomplish them.

Well, my goal was to be a better person, in particular, a more organised person. So. Let’s start with my perfume collection. I really do have a problem. I love perfumes. I love collecting perfume bottles. I still have bottles (some empty, some with a little bit of juice in them to remind myself of their scent) from when I was in junior high school. And then those handed down from my mom.

Recently though, I haven’t been finishing my scents before starting a new bottle. I used to have a signature scent (24 Faubourg by Hermes, it smells heavenly! And I only use it on special occasions because it did not come cheap) but then all these new perfumes came out and I love them all! So that scent got relegated to super special events.

Now I have at least six bottles of perfumes in rotation. Not including my mom’s. And I really need to finish them before they go bad. This post is really for me to write down my bottles so I see them and bunker down and use them up.  The 30-Day Challenge did instill in me the power of a written list. You write it down, you are accountable. You see the list, you will complete it.

Without further ado, my list (in no particular order):

  1. 24 Faubourg
  2. Chaos by Donna Karen
  3. 212 Men
  4. Jo Malone White Jasmin & Mint
  5. Bobbi Brown Beach
  6. Zara Women Chocolate
  7. Burberry Brit
  8. Banana Republic Classic
  9. Kate Spade Twirl
  10. Very Irresistible
  11. Chrome
  12. Clinique Happy
  13. Angel (mini)
  14. Midnight Fleur (mini)
  15. Curve (mini)
  16. Iris (mini)

Hmm, I seem to have miscalculated. Oops. I really need to finish my stash before even contemplating opening new ones.

Okay, it’s written down, I will persevere.

Shameless Lip-Syncing

I’m a lip-syncer. I sing in the car, I sing in the shower, I sing when I’m dressing in the morn.

I’m not a good singer, nor am I a good dancer (think Taylor Swift x Lorde x Elaine Benes), and sometimes I don’t even know the words! But I certainly possess the confidence to mouth words and replicate the head of a pigeon walking all the while flicking my wrists left & right.

While I do people-watch (love it!), I don’t really stay on them long enough to notice if they count or recite anything. Besides, I don’t really look at their faces [ 😉 ].

It’s funny because Eminem’s Lose Yourself came up on my iPod tonight too and I found myself bopping my head like I was at the rap battle myself. Hee.

Awesome workout btw.

Strong Like My Coffee

That awkward moment when you’re shamelessly lip-syncing to your iPod while on the treadmill, look up and see someone staring at you. Yep that happened.

But Lose Yourself came on and I don’t care how totally 2002 it is – you know you feel like a badass listening to Eminem while working out. But then Miley Cyrus makes it’s way into the shuffle and it’s back to reality (“oh! there goes gravity”). 😉

I’m always people-watching at the gym, it’s just weird when you realize someone is watching YOU. However I’d rather be ‘lip-syncing-on-the-treadmill girl’ than ‘sitting-on-weight-machine-while-texting girl’!

Outdoor track season starts this week and our workouts are intensifying. Luckily I have a steamy cup of cinnamon coffee waiting for me after this morning’s track session: 8 x 800s at race pace. It’s one of those workouts when you look at the schedule and are immediately struck with fear. But…

We said we’ll be back, and yay! Now we have Diagon Alley and King’s Cross to explore!

We were there for three days last year, and after going through Universal, we basically stayed the rest of the time over at Islands of Adventure.

In the long run, we will go to allll the Universal’s Wizarding World; maybe next stop, Japan!

A Cup of Kindness

Honestly, where have the time gone?

Christmas has come and gone and I’ve spent the last few days just enjoying the last bit of warm holifuzzies. I hoped everyone’s had the best of times and may there be many more to come.

So, what happened to the big feast? Well, my mom decided to forgo the traditional Western Christmas dinner for some Asian flair. We had hotpot! Mmmhmm. I think it’s actually more work with hotpot because there are loads of washing and prepping beforehand.

Don’t worry, my mincemeat would not be going to waste, let it stew for a while and when I bring it back out, the taste would be all that much better. Heh.

There was a copious amount of hot chocolate drunk over the week with candy canes and topped with marshmallows; I didn’t deviate from that.  My dad enjoyed the pastries that I’d brought home and my mom and I devoured the Harry and David pears my sister’s coworkers got her. They were super sweet and delicious.

Got to see my grandmother too, but unfortunately we didn’t get to have dinner with her because J and I were caught up by our afternoon appointment.  But we got her some vegetable steamed buns because she loved those for her morning meal.

J got her singing on when we went for karaoke; it was basically her one woman show. Drinks and food were included but we snuck our own alcohol to make the cocktails much better. Mmhmm indeed.

What’s going on for New Year’s? I’ve been wrangled as chauffeur/designated driver for J. I was going to volunteer for Saratoga’s First Night but it clashed with her event. Oh well, consider it my good deed to J; if I were to do good, why not to my sister?

Stay warm! Stay safe! Have fun! Cheers!

This is a beautiful colour, one where people would say My Lips But Better.

 photo DSC05092-lips_zps5eda5086.jpg

Goes on smooth but a bit sheer. The surprising thing is, the colour gets deeper as time pass. I swatched it on both my lower arm and the back of my hand, and I saw the deepening of colour as I went on puttering around.

 photo DSC05152-lipdarker_zpsde8b9da3.jpg

(After putzing around, it’s not just me right, it’s a little darker?)

On my lips, I didn’t see this change. It went on a sheer mauve-y wash with a bit of shimmer. Looking at the pictures, it had a bit of silver, chrome-y look to it.

 photo DSC05104-lipchange_zps302ed9bf.jpg
It reminded me a little of L’oreal Colour Juice Stick in Strawberry Fields (one of my all time favourite lipstick). Of course the L’oreal is even more sheer, but the finish is similar.

Since L’oreal discontinued that lipstick, I may have found my dupe! I see on New York Colour’s website there are loads more shades, and if I’m not mistaken, #411 Snow Cone may be it. I can’t wait to get my hands on that shade.

I didn’t find that it lasted the full six hours, but it did last through one mug of tea. But by the end of that mug, there were more on my thumb (from wiping the mug, I hate seeing lipsticks/gloss on mugs) than on my lips.

There’s a distinctive scent when sniffing right out of the tube, but I didn’t catch a hint of it when I have it on. It was after numerous sniffing of my hand that I recognised what it reminded me of. Luden’s Wild Cherry Throat Drops. It certainly brought back memories of elementary school and Winter. Heh.

The packaging is pretty nice and weighted. The colour of the tube matches the colour of the lipstick, including the slight shimmer. I just wished that the lipstick can be rolled down so that the cap won’t catch it accidentally. But maybe it won’t be much of a problem for long, because I really like the colour and texture of this lipstick; it’s gonna be used past that point soon.

#FrostyVoxBox – Rimmel London

Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover: $7.49 for 4.2 FL OZ (125 ml)

“Gently removes all eye makeup, including long-lasting and waterproof makeup, with no oily residue.”

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner: $4.49 for 0.042 oz (1.2 g)

“Gives instant colour impact with its high intensity pigments. The ultra-smooth and creamy formula glides no easily.”

The eyeliner was super smooth, “glides on easily” is too right. The only down side is that it’s rather blunt. Great for smudging out, but not fine enough for precise cat-eyes.

Another pro is that it is rather budge-proof. I swatched it on my arm and it did not smear, just not quite as vibrant in colour.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner photo DSC04959cropped_zps6088a8ba.jpg(After rubbing with cotton pad)

I opened the eye makeup remover and soaked a cotton pad and ran it across the lines.

It took a few swipes but the eyeliner did come off. I would suggest to place the soaked cotton onto the eyes for a few moments before gently massaging the eyeliner off. The skin around the eyes are super sensitive and when rubbed too harshly, may create premature wrinkles.

I didn’t notice any oily residue so it would be suitable to use to correct any mishaps during makeup applications.

After using it a few times, I did not have any reactions to either the eyeliner or the makeup remover.

After checking the Rimmel website, I see that there are a few colour options for the eyeliner, but no greens and gold and only one purple. Boo. (But they do have loads of different types of eyeliners, I’m interested in trying the gel ones & the eye definer ones!)
